China Tobacco Society held the 7th meeting of representatives of its members in Beijing on May 20, in which Director-General Ling Chengxing of the State Tobacco Monopoly Administration (STMA) urged further strengthening of the work of China Tobacco Society and further exertion of its roles.
In a keynote speech delivered at the meeting, Ling emphasized that efforts shall be made to promote the innovation capacity of the tobacco industry and step up the construction of an innovative tobacco industry.
In the speech, Ling fully affirmed the achievements made by 6th council of China Tobacco Society in its work, pointing out that over recent years, China Tobacco Society has actively organized and launched academic exchanges and activities of popularization of science and technology at different levels and in various forms, and that the operation of scientific and technological periodicals, websites and China Tobacco Museum by China Tobacco Society has been quite characteristic, which meant the making of important contributions to demonstrating and generalizing results of innovation, creating a favorable environment of public opinions and maintaining the external image of the tobacco industry.
On the work of China Tobacco Society in a next period of time, Ling emphasized the following points:
Firstly, China Tobacco Society shall continuously dedicate itself to promoting prosperity and development of tobacco science and technology, and make efforts to promote vigorous development of the tobacco industry with science and technology, reduction of the content of harmful substances in tobacco products with science and technology, and increase of efficiency with science and technology.
Secondly, China Tobacco Society shall continuously dedicate itself to promoting generalization and popularization of tobacco science and technology, and make efforts to launch popular, basic and public interest activities of popularization of science and technology.
And thirdly, China Tobacco Society shall continuously dedicate itself to promoting growth and improvement of human resources for tobacco science and technology, and make efforts to develop, care for and encourage human resources for tobacco science and technology.
